WORKSHOPS
KNITTING AND CROCHET
Knitting I: Learn to knit in this beginner’s class. You will learn cast-on, garter stitch (knitting), and binding off. All students attending Knitting I will receive instructions, a set of needles, and yarn to complete a scarf. $50.00 includes materials.
Knitting 2: Go the next step with your knitting and learn to purl. This class will focus on learning stockinette (knit and purl stitches). We will also cover gauge swatches, yarn basics, ribbing and seed stitch, and repairing mistakes. The class includes materials for a scarf or shawl and students will receive a copy of the book Knitting Pretty. $65.00.
Baby Sweater: Learn to knit your first sweater in this baby sweater knitting class. You will learn to how to do a gauge swatch, place stitches on a stitch holder, shaping and seaming. Class fee includes needles and yarn. $95.00.
Stitchorama: Learn new stitches such as lacework in this combination stitch class. Please bring your own needles (8, 9 or 10s). $45.00. November’s Stitchorama is a mitten knitting class (yarn included) and December’s Stitchorama is cast-on and bind-offs.
Mom and Me Knitting: This is a beginning knitting class for moms (or dads) and children aged 6 and above. We will work on basic knitting skills such as casting on, knit stitch and binding off. $40 per person fee includes needles and yarn for a scarf.
Mobius: A mobius is a complex geometric shape which is used in knitting to make shawls. Learn the complex method of casting on and start knitting a mobius like a pro. $55 fee includes needles and one hank of yarn.
Crochet I: Learn the basics of crochet – chain stitch and single crochet, and if time permits, double crochet. Students attending Crochet 1 will receive a guide to crochet, a crochet hook and yarn to complete a sachet. Crochet is back! $50.00 including materials.
NEEDLEWORK AND SEWING
Embroidery I: This class will introduce you to the basics of embroidery. We will cover five basic embroidery stitches and embellish a lovely linen tea towel. Hand-embroidery is a great skill to have and makes beautiful gifts. $45.00 fee includes hoop, needle, embroidery floss and linen towel.
Sewing I: Learn the basics of sewing – sewing machine parts, threading machine, bobbin winding, stitch length and width adjustment, straight stitch, zigzag stitch, needle pivot, decorative stitch, etc. $50.00 fee includes materials for small beginning project.
Sewing II: Sewing I or machine knowledge is required. Learn closed overlock stitch, decorative top stitch and how to add a narrow binding. $50.00 fee includes materials.
*Sewing I and II projects change each month, such as baby items, scarves, and pillowcases. See calendar. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sewing class to select your fabric. We often use Amy Butler patterns and fabric, which we carry in the store. Sometimes, Sewing I and II are combined classes (November and December).
Quilting I: Learn the basics of quilting – rotary cutting techniques, strip piecing, seaming, quilting techniques such as sandwiching, stitch-in-the-ditch, and 9 patch design. Class assumes you have basic sewing skills or have taken Sewing I. $75.00 fee includes material and pattern for a 34x40 inch wall hanging or baby blanket. (2 sessions – 3 hours each).
Machine Embroidery: Our sewing studio has a Babylock embroidery machine. If you would like to use the machine to embroider linens or other fabrics, you can schedule a short private lesson. $15 for a 15 minute tutorial. Please call to schedule.
BEADING
Beading I: This class will cover the basic techniques for making a beaded necklace and a pair of matching earrings. Instruction will cover design layout, knotting onto a clasp and looped wire techniques. $50.00 class fee includes materials for a pearl necklace and earrings.
Beading II – Wire Wrap Jewelry: Learn how to attach beads to necklaces, bracelets or earrings using only wire. Wire wrapping gives the illusion of a chain that is strong, but delicate. Instruction will cover design layout, use of tools and finishing techniques. $65.00 fee includes materials and glass beads for a necklace and matching bracelet.
Pearl Knotting: Learn basic pearl knotting in this beading class. $55.00 fee includes materials for a necklace and bracelet.
Mom and Me Pearl Necklaces: In this class you will make beaded pearl necklaces for a mom and child. The necklace is made with freshwater pearls and a sterling silver heart clasp. $40 per necklace.
OTHER CRAFTS
Glass Etching: Glass etching is a craft that anyone can learn. This process gives glass that “frosted” look. We used acids and stencils to etch the glass. Each student will receive glass for their project (vase or dessert plates) and a bottle of etching crème. $45.00 including materials.
Cardmaking: Learn the art of stamping in this cardmaking class. You will also cover design, paper layering, embellishments and ink embossing. $45 fee includes materials.
KID’S CLASSES
Each month we offer at least one class for children. Children of appropriate ages may take any of the classes listed above as well. Classes we offer for children include basic needlework (hand-sewing, embroidery, cross-stitch), card-making, paper quilling, origami, etc.
POLICIES:
- Class registration is on a first come, first served basis.
- Classes must be prepaid by cash, check, gift certificate or charge card.
- Minimum enrollment is 3 students per class. Any class with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled at our discretion. Students will be given a choice of a refund or store credit for any cancelled class.
- Our classes are small and usually limited to 6-8 students.
- If you are unable to attend your class, please notify us as soon as possible. If you need to cancel you enrollment, you may do so one week prior to the class and receive a refund. Any cancellations less than one week (7 days) prior to the class will receive a store credit. No shows will not receive a store credit or refund, no exceptions.
- For sewing/quilting classes, machines are provided. You may bring your own machine if you know how to use it.
- Individuals must be at least 21 years of age to attend CRAFTY GIRLS Wine and Cheese events.
- All students receive a 10 percent store discount on the day of their class.
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION:
In addition to group workshops, we offer private instruction. Knitting, crochet, and embroidery lessons are $40 per hour, $30 per hour per person for semi-private (2 persons) instruction.
FIX-IT CLINIC:
You asked – we deliver! Toni will be hosting a regular fix-it clinic for knitting and crochet. This clinic will usually be the first Saturday of every month. $10 if she can solve your problem.
CRAFTY GIRLS:
Check out our “Crafty Girl” nights! Once a month, we will serve wine and cheese and work on a single craft. This series is a great way to have fun for a few hours, exchange ideas and leave with a new hand-crafted item. Reserve your space in advance by paying the $25 materials fee.
